Campaigns Assistant
The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), the independent national community voice on refugee issues, is seeking 1-2 Campaign Assistants on a volunteer basis, to join its team fighting for justice, fairness and equity in Australia’s treatment of people seeking asylum and refugees.
These roles can be either Melbourne or Sydney based, 1-2 days per week, for a minimum commitment of 6 months.
Role Overview
The Campaigns Team at RCOA is a small but dynamic team working on campaigns across the refugee rights movement. It is focused on coordination of joint campaigns across the movement. Our current campaign priorities are:
- Roof Over My Head – a campaign to protect essential support services for people seeking asylum in Australia
- Kids Off Nauru – a 100 day campaign to get all children off Nauru
- Community Refugee Sponsorship Initiative – a campaign to achieve a robust community sponsorship program in Australia modelled of the current Canadian modelled
The role/s will support staff in either our Melbourne or Sydney offices to plan and implement our work in these campaigns.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Campaigns Assistants will work with RCOA’s Campaign Organiser, Director of Communications and other relevant staff to do some of the following activities:
- Assisting with the day-to-day campaign coordination across our campaigns
- Drafting high-quality emails and campaign content for our website
- Creating content and engaging with social media content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Managing relationships with campaign partners and supporters
- Supporting other campaign activities such as actions, media opportunities and database management
Key Skills
- Experience working on campaigns in social or environmental justice
- Awareness of campaign strategic thinking
- Willingness to work in a team and independently
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights
- Experience with Wordpress and NationBuilder a plus (basic coding knowledge a plus)
- People with lived experience seeking asylum or as a refugee are highly encouraged to apply
