From June 18, thousands of people seeking asylum will be cut off the Status Resolution Support Service (SRSS), a program that provides basic income support and trauma and torture counseling to people awaiting their refugee status determination. The program allows people to live and pay for basic needs such as food, rent, medications and books for their children’s education.
We are calling on Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton to guarantee a #RoofOverMyHead for people waiting for their refugee status determination. Forcing people onto the streets is bad for families, for our communities and for our country.
To send this message to Malcolm Turnbull, Peter Dutton and other members of the Federal government, we re traveling to Canberra on Monday June 18, the start of Refugee Week, and holding a press conference, lobbying delegation and holding a community gathering on parliament lawn.
You are invited to join our community gathering as we hear from people affected by the cuts, and invite our elected Members of Parliament and Senators to come and join us at our 'Pop Up Home'.
We will also deliver a petition to the government calling on them to reinstate the SRSS, you can find that here: http://refugeecouncilaus.nationbuilder.com/roofovermyhead_petition
Please RSVP so we can keep in touch.
If you require support with transport and accommodation to Canberra, please fill out this form.
Please note we are not able to cover the full cost of everyone's travel and accommodation, however some support with this is possible.
